Today I had a tutorial with Rebecca, we discussed where I am in the project and the important factors I should be considering in the lead up to the Production.
Top Girls is the first production out of the three to be shown, opening on the 27th October, which means I have a lot to do in the lead up........
Today we discussed the costumes and key influences I should be looking at to keep me on track with the 80s theme; in particular Dexys Midnight Runners, who are an amazing inspiration for my design for Angie, being exactly how I pictured her. I've been looking into this main inspiration, leading me to dungarees and converse trainers, perfect.
Because my production is first I dont have time to get my costumes made from scratch so am looking into costume hire houses, vintage shops/ websites etc. I am also looking into buying/ hiring office equipment for my 'split table' set idea.
........So far I have found an amazing vintage website to buy 80s style clothing, it has an amazing range of 80s dungarees and office wear. I have also sourced office furniture, in particular conference tables; the shapes and sizes of my designs, but they are expensive so I'll keep searching.
In my tutorial I was advised to look at The Filter Theatre Company for set ideas and techniques, as all I have for set at the moment is an adaptable table with multiple uses. This research will help me expand on my idea. I will also attend a production taking place this Thursday/ Friday for more set ideas; using different methods such as projection so as to avoid using obvious backdrops, which I dont like.
This part of the project is what I find the hardest as its something I'm not used to and heve never done, so I'm challenging myself to the max. I will learn so much from this though.
