Dexys Midnight Runners

After my tutorial with Rebecca I started to research Dexys Midnight Runners and the fashion statement they emanate that influences Angie.

These images all display the influence that teenagers were under in the early 80s in terms of fashion and music. This style to me best communicates Angie's personality, childlike behaviour and idolisation.

Dexys Midnight Runners were a British post-punk/ northern soul band, described as a 'soul fusion'. They were founded by Kevin Rowland in 1978 and were widely popular in the early 80s.

There was no real genre to place this band in, they were suited to the mod/ skinhead revival scene, but through there non conventional dress sense and music style they are hard to place.

Their most well know and successful hit was "Come on Eileen". They had three successful albums, 'Searching for the Young Soul Rebels' in 1980, 'Too-Rye-Aye' in 1982, and 'Don't Stand Me Down' in 1985.

Their fashion statement consisted of Baggy fitting dungarees rolled up and worn with converse trainers or espadrilles, and a white top underneath or a black waist coat and neck tie or scarf. Ideal design for Angie.
