Initial Set Design

The production of 'Top Girls' is taking place in the Arts University College Bournemouth's Studio Theatre. This space allows me to create a contemporary set design placing the staging area anywhere round the room. Key features to take note of are the sound and lighting accessibility and view; making sure they can still see the action to know when to do what.

These drawings demonstrate the endless possibilities for the room. However it would be easier to stick to the conventional space (the first design) for both sound and lighting and for accessibility, ease of access for fly-in objects etc.

For my initial idea into the set design I looked into a 'table', this would be the focus of the play, used to create the setting for each scene; the table at the restaurant, turns into the desks in the office, then into the den and back door of the garden scene, back into the office scene and finally into the kitchen scene.

These designs explain the process.....

From this I need to research the furniture of the 80s, possible background designs and details of the overall set..............
